Question #5

In Steve Tesich's article "Focusing on Friends", he talks about his relations and struggles with both his male and female friends. Throughout the whole article, Tesich talks about his three best friends and how he struggles to find the words to express his love for them. He first starts off the article by saying that he can always tell girls he loves them, but when it comes to his best guy friends, he can't find the words. He constantly refers to situations as a movie. When it comes to girls, it was a movie where they didn't really care. Tesich talks about how he had a best friend Slobo but when Tesich moved he was never able to tell Slobo he loved him. Tesisch regretted it. Then Tesich next friend Louie, died in Vietnam, and although Tesich was able to tell Louie's mom that he loved him, he was never able to tell Louie. Finally the article ends with Tesich talking about his third best friend. He wants to tell Same he over him, but he realizes that telling him he loves him might ruin their relationship. Tesich ends the article by saying "It is time to make adjustments." (Tesich 43). I was surprised when i go to the ending, because the whole article Tesich talks about his regrets never telling his friends he loved them and how he only tells women. In the end all of a sudden it hits him that he doesn't have to tell his guy friends because it ends up ruining this. The ending caught me off guard, but I'm glad he realized and had no more regrets. Deep down friends always know you love them.
